Computer Repair and Spyware Issues

by Aplus IT on December 2, 2008

We are currently experiencing a high rate of attack via Rogue Programs called *Anti Virus 2009*. Computer Repairs become a challenge when Spyware/Rogueware/Malware is being written daily with the aim of infecting more and more computers.

A common approach by Rogue programs is to display either fake results or exaggerated results when the program scans your computer.

When the scan is finished you will be shown a list of legitimate files and Windows Registry keys that are flagged as security threats. In some cases, the Rogue programs actually create the files and Windows Registry keys on your computer so that they can be detected as malware. Then in order to remove these threats, you must first purchase a license of the software.

These fraudulent tactics are used to scare you purchasing this software. Now it should be noted that there is nothing wrong with a program requiring you to purchase it before it will remove any infections. It is wrong, though, to display false information to scare you into doing it.

Rogues programs are typically introduced into your computer when a person visits sites that offer copyrighted content. In some cases you will be infected by just visiting these site, depending on what security updates are installed, and in other cases you must first run an executable.

Either way, your computer will have malware installed that displays fake security alerts stating that you have some security risk and must install a piece of software, the Rogue, to remove it. Remember to update and run your anti spyware/anti virus software regularly, don’t download free music, and don’t share files on peer-to-peer programs.

Our computer repair technicians are proficient in removing and repairing computers infected with spyware/malware fake download trojans.

Keep Safe.

Quick&Easy Tip To Save You $$$

by Aplus IT on August 27, 2008

I was just chatting with one of our lovely clients David (he makes me call him that!) and he was after a new keyboard.

You see, David has just had some issues with his new keyboard that he’s only had for 4 weeks – and no computer repairs will fix it.

The same issue has happened twice in a row now…..hasn’t it David :o)

You see, David, like a lot of us, likes to have his coffee next to his mouse whilst he works his computer. Unfortunately keyboards don’t like have hot coffee spilled all over them!

That’s 2 for 2 with David!

I’ve noticed a recent TV ad for laptop computers with a famous swimmer having a drink spilled over her keyboard and the computer working just fine.

What you might not see in the ad is the fine print at the end that says something along the lines of “If you spill fluid on this keyboard it probably won’t work”!

Save Computer Spills

If you like a coffee whilst working, simply invest in those non-spill tops to save yourself some pain!

Cheers

Lillian

Filesharing leads to Gold Coast Computers requiring Repairs

Downloading music and video of the internet is easy. If you have teens in the house they are probably doing it as we speak! Sharing files via programs like Limewire, Bearshare, Bit Torrent and many others is simple and free.

It all sounds harmless, but this sharing means your computer is wide open to the world. Spyware and dangerous keylogger programs are looking for just such an opening. By the time you realise your computer is feeling sick, it is too late. Your system is infected with multiple spyware programs and your private passwords or credit card details may well have been stolen.

On the Gold Coast an average of five to ten Computers require Repair every week simply due to fileshare habits of their users. It is really best practice not to use file sharing programs, not to mention that it is illegal.

New Remote Services Save Time&Money

by Aplus IT on December 5, 2007

We’ve been in this industry a good while and seen a lot of technology changes.

Probably the biggest and best change I’ve seen is the development of remote technology that allows us to login to your computer, diagnose the problem and fix it on the spot – in 80% of cases anyway.

When you consider:

  • travel time,
  • petrol costs,
  • technician time costs

then being able to login instantly to your computer to effect a repair saves you an enormous amount of money and hassle.

We’ve finished trials of the technology and have started using it. If you have a computer problem right now, our technicians can have it fixed in just minutes!

Amazing stuff.

Cheers
